This specific CAS service experience focuses on my contribution and active participation in the Habitat for Humanity NGO programme. Habitat for Humanity is a multinational, non-governmental and not-for-profit organization which is focused on rebuilding and developing proper residential infrastructure for the ones in need. In this case I am participating to rebuild a toilet for a poor family in Gresik, Randusongo, Kesambenkulon Village. This is how the initial toilet looks like:

This CAS experience involves several sub-activities in order to accomplish the final goal of rebuilding the houses for those in need. The first process is to start and regulate the necessary fundraising process, each toilet requires eight million rupiah as a contribution. The fundraising involves a student’s participation in the MYP Personal Project as well as our contribution in individual fundraising programmes. Afterwards, once the eight million is collected, we are immersed and involved in the building process of the toilet on Saturday, 1st February 2020.

This CAS experience achieves the strands of service, whilst focusing on three learning outcomes: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively, Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance and Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

The primary goal and objective of this CAS experience is to develop a stewardship awareness as well as to experience public participation in a multinational NGO organization focusing on constructing and building proper housing and residential infrastructure for those in need. Through this experience, several basic skills are developed such as techniques of construction and public fundraising skills. The primary goal however, is to increase awareness, understanding and realization of the importance of social contribution.
